Another 61 Miles and we are in Vinh Lai. 180 down and 920 to go!
Vinh Lai is not really a city on any tourist map, but it has a huge market and seems to be on the upswing with lots of building and activity. It is the largest city on the north central coast of Vietnam and is on the Song Lam River and about 10 Miles from the coast. We had a pleasant ride down and though we are still on the fairly busy Hwy 1A we saw lots of agriculture (rice, corn, cabbage, etc.), people fishing the rivers, and beautiful mountain scenery. We unfortunately are seeing lots of haze and hopefully that will clear up as we move down the coast. We are having lots of great encounters with the people and we are learning little bits of Vietnamese as we go along (I can even count to ten and impressed the woman making our banh my for lunch). We also had a delicious bowl of pho for breakfast and while we explored the market here we stopped for fried tofu and a Vietnamese version of Chinese hum bau.
We have a 65 mile ride tomorrow and we will try to get off Hwy 1A and go closer to the coast.
Until next time! Don6
